Lighting of the Commons
Lighting of the Commons has been a fun tradition at Oklahoma Christian University where members of the community gather in one place to ring in the holiday season. Since 2008, this event has become more and more popular in the community. A FREE event, Lighting of the Commons features hot chocolate, carriage rides, a Christmas market, and pictures with Santa! The biggest part of Lighting of the Commons is the lighting of the Lawson Commons area and firework show. While all of this goes on, the Oklahoma Christian Summer Singers perform popular Christmas tunes. This is a great event for people of all ages to enjoy.
Cocoa and Carols
A more laid-back event on campus is Cocoa and Carols, which takes place the same week as Lighting of the Commons. This event features various music ensembles at Oklahoma Christian University. This event has gained more attention over the years, as it recently wrapped up its 42nd year. This event also features hot chocolate and apple cider during intermission for audience members to enjoy for free. This event can be fun for parents and children, as it features many Christmas songs and even SNOW!
The Joy We Need
Both Lighting of the Commons and Cocoa and Carols include appealing events for younger and older audiences. Bringing strangers together for a few hours to spread holiday cheer, OC puts together two events that bring smiles and laughter to many people in the community. It is exactly what people need to relax and spend time together.
